Time is a precious commodity in the hardwood lumber industry, as it is in most industries. Without a plan of attack for time-management—or at least a disciplined approach to handling how you spend your waking hours— it is difficult to establish a standard that helps reduce wasted time for your business.

Not every hardwood log harvested from a forest is used in a sawmill. To maximize value, sawmills must evaluate the characteristics of a log and determine if it best sawed into lumber.  Many times, sawmills determine that some hardwood logs would be better off used to produce wooden veneers or other specialty products such as white oak staves.
