Looking Forward - Imported Hardwood Update

Written by Jesper Bach

In our last update, we made note of some of the supply chain issues facing the imported hardwood market at the moment. Unfortunately, not much has changed on that front in regards to our supply chain issues from Africa.

LookingForwardShipping rates are on the rise, and we are scrambling to find available lines that are willing to offer bookings. To further complicate matters, we are also finding the need to accept less than ideal arrival ports for the tropical hardwoods that are heading to our Cove, City, NC location. Which has resulted in additional costs to the lumber on top of the already increasing rates.

On a positive note, despite these challenges, we have had a very respectable receiving month in August. We were still able to import tropical hardwoods from around the world, including some Bubinga, Cumaru, Morado, Purpleheart, Red Grandis, Spanish Cedar, and Sapele. All of these species we will be putting on sticks and will be drying at our Cove City, NC facility where the team has been doing an exceptional job.

BubingaOf the many tropical hardwoods we got in recently, the Bubinga has really stood out. Take a look at some of these pictures of some 8/4” stock that was just dried in Cove City, NC. Our kiln-drying team did a wonderful job on the drying, and this stock is available for prompt shipment!

For now, it looks like the supply-chain disruptions will continue to affect us in the imported wood industry for a little a while longer. I would say at a minimum the next 6 months. But more than likely than not, it will be longer than that.

As always, if you are in need of tropical feel free to give us a call. We are happy to see what we can do to help!
