Taking a look at Aniegre "Aningeria spp"

Aniegre is a beautiful golden African hardwood specie that has its niche in the in the veneer, cabinetry, and high-end millwork industries. But can also be found in use for furniture, boatbuilding and carpentry uses.

The heartwood in Aniegre is typically a light yellowish-brown and occasionally can even contain a pinker hue. The color darkens with age to a nice shade of golden brown. It makes a beautiful veneer product, and that is one of its primary uses, but Aniegre in lumber form should not be overlooked.   DSC2535

When quartersawn, Aniegre can present an eye-catching figure pattern. Unfortunately, many of the Aniegre logs that would be great for this are typically the ones that are used in the creation of veneer.

Despite this, Aniegre lumber that is produced has respectable working characteristics, and accepts a variety of stains very well due to its even texture and grain which make it great for finishing.

In the past, the majority of Aniegre shipped to the US was from Ghana. Lately however, there has been more coming from Cameroon where the color does tend to be a shade darker.

We stock Aniegre at our Cove City, NC facility. Volumes are much smaller coming in than they were in the past. Right now we are currently stocking Aniegre in 4/4” thickness only and makes an excellent complement for a mixed load of hardwoods.

If you are interested in Aniegre and would like to know more, or require one of the other tropical hardwoods that we offer, let us know. We would be happy to get you the hardwood lumber you need to succeed.
