Uses for Thick Stock Tropical Lumber

Most uses for imported tropical lumber in the United States are for 4/4" through 8/4" lumber. Whether it be 4/4” thicknesses for flooring, 5/4” for stair treads and trim, or 6/4” and 8/4” for doors, windows and other millwork project, most of the inquiries we get are for thicknesses less than 10/4”. However, there are also many uses for thick stock tropical lumber.

imported hardwoods stocklist imageThere are many applications where thick stock tropical lumber is what is requested. For example, some of our customers request thick stock from us to make fence or railing posts, to use in various wood turning applications and even to make wooden bowl blanks in their manufacturing facilities. Much of this is in the 16/4 thickness.

Typically the 16/4” we provide is random width and length lumber. However, we have also produced S4S squares out of our 16/4" lumber for posts and guitar neck material. It is important to mention though that we can produce any size since all of our squares start from raw material which is received as random width.

One of the important aspects of our 16/4" lumber is we also dry all of this material at our Cove City, North Carolina facility ourselves to ensure that our customers receive the highest quality product possible. It is a lengthy process which can take up to 90 days to complete, but we feel it the best way to deliver the finest tropical lumber our customers desire.

We currently have 16/4” inventory in African Mahogany, Genuine Mahogany and Sapele. If you are interested in learning more please contact us today.
