Common Uses for Sapele

We find that one of the tropical species growing fastest in popularity is Sapele.  Sapele is sourced from West Africa, primarily Cameroon and Congo, and is commonly used as an alternative to Mahogany.

Its consistent dark brown color and extremely stable nature make it very attractive for craftsmen and manufacturers to work with.  When it is rifted and quartered it has a gorgeous ribbon like grain appearance that really stands out in the finished product.

One of the most interesting characteristics of Sapele is its interlocking grain.  When Sapele trees grow the grains in the timber twist and interlock in irregular intervals resulting in a very distinctive look.
